It's almost time for the 2015 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Awards. Here is the list of proposed categories for this year. We mixed things up more than normal this year, but keep in mind that while we understand that some categories end up containing projects that might not be directly comparable, it's simply not feasible to have enough categories to be all encompassing. If you have suggestions on additions, subtractions or modifications, let us know. I'll be finalizing the list and posting the polls based on feedback from this thread.

maybe a sub-category for linux compatible games ?

There is category where Linux is making a huge inroad on desktops.
If not this year possibly the inclusion of Desk Top Publishing (DTP) next year as:

DTP Application

We have no plans for multiple game categories for this year. If there's sufficient demand in the future it's something we'd consider.

I'll admit this isn't a category I'm extremely familiar with, but I'd anticipate low voter participation and a runaway winner for this category.

I would be very interested in seeing Game Distribution Service of the Year. Steam would probably win hands down, but there are others out there the support Linux, and I would be interested in seeing what kind of distribution of votes they alternatives get.

That category is on the "Proposed for Removal" list.

Revision Control System of the Year - very interested in seeing what is being used, as there are several alternatives, and these get used by a lot of us software developers.

Messaging Application of the Year - Same here. Is anyone still using Kopete, does Pidgin rule? What are others using?

I would like to see this retained, not removed, and I don't think I'm the odd man out on this.

This has been the most lopsided category the last few years, which is why it's being rotated out. It's possible it will appear again in a future MCA.

This was both lopsided and a very difficult category to manage. It will be replaced by a rotating category of specific Messaging type; this year IRC Client and Email Client. Likely IM next year.

While I like this idea in theory, this seems like it would be a very difficult category to manage. Given https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-source_hardware what would you anticipate the nominees looking like?
