2016 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Award Categories
It's almost time for the 2016 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Awards. Here is the list of proposed categories for this year. We mixed things up more than normal last year, but keep in mind that while we understand that some categories end up containing projects that might not be directly comparable, it's simply not feasible to have enough categories to be all encompassing. If you have suggestions on additions, subtractions or modifications, let us know. I'll be finalizing the list and posting the polls based on feedback from this thread.
For reference, this was the list from last year:
Quote:
Desktop Distribution of the Year
Server Distribution of the Year
Mobile Distribution of the Year

Email Client of the Year (Rotating category)
Audio Authoring Application of the Year (Replaced)
Linux Desktop/Laptop Vendor of the Year (Replaced)

Virtualization Application of the Year
Container Application of the Year
Linux/Open Source Podcast of the Year
Linux Magazine of the Year
Instant Messaging Client of the Year

Are there any additional categories you'd like to see this year? I'm also curious to hear opinions on the future of Package Manager of the Year (should AppImage and Flatpak be included), Open Source Web Framework of the Year (remove?), and Linux Filesystem of the Year (remove?), although feedback on all categories is welcome.

I think that by now there is an argument to be made about the best "Linux based Security or Pentesting Distro",.. enough to warrant a category all its own.
Perhaps a category to find out the best code hosting? Github, bitbucket etc...?
Best online linux server provider? Digitalocean, rackspace, amazon etc...?

Best log management? Rsyslog, syslogng, redis, elasticsearch, kibana, graylog (I'd make this a multiple choice since ELK, GLERK, LERK stacks exist and its hard to split them up.)
I'd actually like to nominate Open Source Web Framework of the Year for removal. It's too diverse for one category, too closely related to "programming language of the year", etc.
I know I am not suggesting linux applications and such. Just throwing out ideas.
Disregard if I am off topic. Or out of line. But we and other forums get a lot of the above questions on a daily basis.
Edit: you'll never guess where I got this idea from
