View Poll Results: Desktop Environment of the Year
Knowing that I cannot vote for it for good reasons: Plasma, I guess. I heard a lot of good things surrounding its recent developments and I admit that I'm surprised.
KDE, because Plasma5 has made it to Slackware -current where I'm finding it very nice to use.
Another category where I find it difficult to pick just one. I use a few DEs/WMs, but two are tops for me.
Xfce is close to a tie with Plasma5, with it's release just over a year ago that didn't break usability for me. If that solid and steady progress continues with the recent release getting ready to land in a few distros, next year's poll choice for me will likely be Xfce.
Of the DE's I much prefer KDE. XFCE is okay, but I find KDE's default set of applications superior to XFCE's. But that's just me.
Unity, of course, is now in the dustbin.
I loathe Gnome with the fire of a thousand suns. In these days of ginormous monitors, why the heck do they think application windows should be maximized by default? Plus they spell "simplify" as d-u-m-b-d-o-w-n. (As an aside, I put attribute this to Mark Shuttleworth's thoroughly discredited notion of "convergence," the notion that users are too stupid to adapt to using different interfaces on different types of devices.)
Voted for KDE. Kwin is the killer feature for me. It can be used in other Desktop Environments but it works best with Plasma. I also like the Application Dashboard menu a lot.
